Course Description

WHAT IS FACS??

FACS stands for Family and Consumer Sciences which used to be called, Home Economics. It is offered as an elective in many middle and high schools. It is almost always a crowd favorite! Students get to come to a class where they are up and moving and working on projects that they can apply to their day to day living! It is interactive, and USEFUL! I cannot count the number of times students have told me they went home and did or made whatever it was we had done in class that day (made the recipe, did the laundry, fixed a button, babysat a sibling and used the techniques they learned, encouraged a friend...). What a joy it is to see students loving what they are learning!

CLASS LEVELS

I will be offering two class levels:

FACS at Home 101 for Elementary School Age 2nd-5th Graders

FACS at Home 102 for Junior High Age 6th -9th Graders

Just like in any classroom, I believe in differentiated instruction on a student by student basis which means, curriculum will be modified to fit the student's level and speed of learning!

WHAT WE WILL LEARN?

Family and Consumer Sciences covers a multitude of things and that is what makes it so much fun! It is all about learning how to do day to day things to the best of our ability! I am a certified teacher and want to take the successful learning from my classroom, and offer it at home for students who are homeschooled! We will casually follow the state standards for a FACS classroom while adding in and taking away just a few things here and there to make it the perfect fit for your student! They will participate in many hands-on learning actives such as cooking labs, sewing projects, community service projects, and so much more that they will be able to apply to their daily living!
